Diagnosing through movement:
- Exploring the Six Fundamental Movements.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the Six Fundamental Movements, a framework for understanding non-verbal and subtle movement interactions within the therapeutic relationship. These patterns emerge through on-going moving dialogues between parent and infant and are seen to have functional similarities in how meaning is made in adult life, and within the therapist-client dyad.
An in-depth exploration of these movement patterns will deepen understanding of their psychological and relational functions. This, in turn, supports the therapist’s ability to uncover habitual relational themes, appreciate their current function and opening new possibilities for contacting.
The workshop examines how interests, feelings, and desires are expressed through movement dynamics such as posture, gesture, breathing and vocal tone. Through guided movement experiments, participants will practice bringing these experiences to the foreground cultivating awareness of their bodily knowing.
Integrating theory and practice, the workshop introduces Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™, founded by Ruella Frank, and draws on Helena Kallner’s doctoral research, Forming Form: How Movement Shapes Psychotherapists’ Practical Knowledge.
The workshop welcomes both English and French speaking participants.
